Come and join us at Singapore’s first forró dance party. Don’t know how to forró? No worries. There will be a 30-minute intro class just before the party begins so bring a partner and your towel (yes, it does get very hot in all sense of the word and sweaty if you are really dancing forró!) No partner? Never mind. There’s probably someone waiting to dance with you!
For the first time in Singapore, Forró - Brazil’s most popular couple dancing among the young and old -will being taught by a native Brasileiro.
Claudinho, our Capoeira instructor, happens to be a great Forró dancer (even though he is way too modest to admit it). Just watch him steering his female dance partner around the dancefloor and you’ll know what I mean by a smouldering sexy Latino taking the lead (no kidding). Unfortunately, I was unable to upload a video of him dancing Forró but this Youtube video is muito bom and gives you an idea of how Forró is danced by os brasileiros themselves.
Even if you don’t have any prior dance background, we can assure you that Claudinho has taught some of us who only boast of having two left feet and we could still Forró quite decently - not to the point of sizzle but you get the idea!
Or you think you can dance but don’t have a partner to dance with, don’t fret. It’s contact dancing so someone will dance with you. And guys, you get to lead! We mulher will just follow…er, your lead…
What to wear? It’s casual. You can even come in your bermudas and T-shirt and dance barefooted. That’s how they dance Forró in Brasil. But if you prefer to come in your work clothes, that’s fine too. So long as you are comfortable.
We hope to gather enough Forró enthusiasts so we can eventually host Forró parties regularly!
Forró classes starting 3rd June 2008 @ YMCA Singapore
