As part of the Icons of the World @ Singapore Flyer, this weekend’s theme America will feature a Capoeira and Maculele performance from Bantus Capoeira Singapore. Catch us there this Saturday 25 June 2011! According to the program, showtime is at 7.30pm. But still, come early to check out all the various 5-metre high structures of the world’s famous landmarks like the Statue of Liberty, Pyramid and Sphinx, Eiffel Tower specially designed by renowned Japanese artist Akira Takahashi. Definitely picture-worthy moments!

There’s a bunch of activities going on that day and we hope the skies will stay blue and the sun will be kind to those who need a dose of Vitamin D. Alight at Beach Station @ Sentosa and make your way across to the new MacDonalds’ outlet where you’ll find our capoeiristas playing capoeira and maculele at 2pm. See ya!

Brazilian Carnival party!

At midnight, the carnival party organised by the Brazilians held at the Fort Canning Centre Gallery on Friday 20 February got into full swing.

Our friends, Silvio and his team presented a capoeira and maculêlê performance, with a little help from his fellow capoeiristas from Bantus, namely Claudinho and Rafael in the angola roda and Tempeiro on berimbau, to get the crowd warmed up.

After that, our sambistas, together with two other Brasileiras, samba-ed their way into the crowd to the rousing samba batucada beats of Bantus Batucada!

Which, by the way, is the name of our samba batucada band and samba troupe.

We want to thank Rafael for coming all the way down from KL to help us make the night a memorable one. Returning the favour, Claudinho and Barracuda trooped up to KL the following weekend for our sister school’s carnival party gig.

Our 3rd Batizado

Wow, we’re already having our 3rd batizado! Three years have flown by and Claudinho has done a great job in getting everyone ready for our annual event. This year, we will be seeing a number of new students getting their first cordas so we are very excited! Some of them have already been with us for at least a year and can’t wait to finally participate in their first batizado.

This year, our Batizado guests include Mestre Pintor (our newbies will be meeting him for the first time!), Graduado Rafael (KL), Instructor Cueca (KL), Instructor Grão (Perth), Professor Margo (a great friend of Bantus S’pore) and Contra Mestre Silvio Berimbau (S’pore).

Our Batizado workshops (Wed 19 Nov - Fri 21 Nov 2008) will be held at the studios at The YMCA Singapore from 8.30pm to 10.30pm. There are shower facilities so bring your bath things if you need to wash up before we head for supper (you’ll bound to be hungry!) after the workshops.

The Batizado & troca de corda ceremony will be held at Istana Park on Saturday 22 Nov 2008 from 2pm to about 5pm (we think!) So remember to round up your family and friends and get those cameras ready for a lot of action.

And then there’s the party…it’ll be on Saturday nite 22 Nov…samba gals and batucada…we’ll tell you more in an email coming to you soon!

Bantus S’pore @ Lamborghini launch

The new Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4 was launched in Singapore with the help of two capoeiristas from Bantus Singapore on 8th July 2008.

Claudinho and Tempeiro, clad in black and white respectively, surprised the press when they made their appearance like ninjas popping out of nowhere at Oosh @ Dempsey Road on Tuesday afternoon.

Showcasing their agility and energy against a white box-like cage that held the Lamborghini, our capoeiristas played non-stop to the pulsating beats of club music, before opening the cage to unleash the “beast” that was revving impatiently within.

Our bashful duo posing for my camera after their faces had been airbrushed to perfection by the makeup mestranda (Now we know why celebrities look so good!)

Once the car was unveiled, the press photogs were all over the beauty like ants drawn to a honeypot, snapping away at every possible angle. We could hardly blame them since that sleek white toy came complete with a cool price tag of S$900,000. So drool on!

In the evening, a pair of models, a bodybuilding duo and our two capoeiristas were back in the spotlight to show off some form to depict the beauty, strength and aggressive agility of the Lamborghini.

Ever seen that many Lamborghinis in one carpark?

Naturally, the Lamborghini owners on the island came out in full force that evening to give their nod of approval at the event along with fellow aficionadoes of the superb road machine. C’mon, who doesn’t love a Lamborghini? We certainly do!
