Bantus Talent at work

I must say we have a pretty talented bunch here at Bantus.

Last month, I got to watch one of our young capoeiristas, Indio, who is a budding thespian, on stage in his role as MacBeth (not the easiest Shakespearean play for young actors). I am awed by his ability to remember all his lines - hello, we are talking Shakespeare here (and the boy’s only 14 going on to 15).  And when I found out that he actually choreographed the swordfight scene between MacBeth and his nemesis, I was most impressed. Indio, you definitely put your maculelé and fencing skills to good use!

Just a fortnight ago, we are delighted that the cheerleading team Peixe Cru has been coaching has come in second for the National Cheerobics Competition. Wow, all those months of hard work for only 3 minutes! Needless to say, the local newspapers had a two-page feature on that event.

Currently, in the limelight is Lua, one of our own capoeiristas who also happens to be a dancer (and a good one too). She has been busy rehearsing week after week to entertain the masses for the Dance Floor competition for several months now. I remember a bleary-eyed Claudinho and I rushing down to her audition last year (at 7.30am!) just to cheer her on. And we had to wait nearly four hours before it was her turn!

Well, the good news is that her team Platinum is still in the running.

One more round next week before the finals. Week after week, we’ve watched and marvelled at how she creatively applies her capoeira moves in the choreography and this week, she actually incorporated a bananeira de cabeça while channelling Martha Graham.

So in typical Bantus fashion, our tribe plans to troop down to the Mediacorp studio to cheer her on for this last leg of the competition next Wednesday and the Wednesday after (if Platinum makes it through this round). In the meantime, don’t forget to vote for Platinum (sms D1 to 32623 or call 1 900 112 5501) for this week! You can log on to www.thedancefloor.com.sg to read the weekly reviews and Platinum’s blog.

Update: Yeah! Platinum is still in the running! Keep them in. Vote for Platinum SMS D7 or call 1900 112 5507 before next Wed (18 April) 6pm!
