21st July is Racial Harmony Day in Singapore. It is to remind us that racial peace and harmony cannot be taken for granted. The recent past and current world events are a sobering reminder.
On Saturday 22nd July, despite the fickle weather, Bantus Capoeira Singapore participated unofficially in the Orange Ribbon Celebrations in Singapore aimed at promoting interethnic harmony. We took to the streets to jogar (next to a rock band that was there for the same reason) to show our support for a great cause. Although not everyone could make it, we still had a fair representation of our ethnic diversity comprising Chinese, Eurasian, African, Ameri-Indian and European ancestry in our merry band of capoeiristas.
